Money and mud

I have a few months before my big race, and I have decided to start fundraising for Special Olympics of Michigan's Law Enforcement Torch Run. As a police officer and the cousin of a Special Olympian, the Law Enforcement Torch Run is something that means a lot to me. And I'm looking for the help of my readers. I want to remind everyone that this doesn't benefit me in any way other than to give me a warm fuzzy feeling. The people it is going to help are the athletes. The men and women that are putting their hearts and souls out there to compete with one another. They are the greatest examples of sportsmanship and humanitarianism you can find. These men and women are thrilled just to have the opportunity to compete, regardless of how they place. It is truly just about playing the game. I hear people call Special Olympics athletes "stupid" or "retarded." I hear people call handicapped people "freaks," and people with muscular handicaps "spazzes." They are treated like less-than-human. My cousin, Jeff (actually my wife's cousin), has Down's Syndrome. He has been competing in Special Olympics for as long as I've known him ( 17+years), and absolutely loves it. He is hyper competitive, but is a ridiculously good sport when he doesn't "win." He is the reason I am supporting Special Olympics, so he can continue to compete. So he can continue to show ME how to be a better person. Please help me support Jeff and all the other Special Olympics athletes. Click on the First Giving link to the right (over there >>>>---->>). You can donate anonymously, if you want. Don't worry, your contact info won't be used for spam, and you won't be on a "donor's list" for future contributions. Thanks in advance.
